『Everything's Beautiful』, a re-creation of Miles Davis's musical world by Robert Glasper, who continues to shine in the new generation jazz scene.
This ambitious work remixes Miles's original recordings selected by Glasper from the US Columbia label's tape archive.
Glasper commented on this work:
"I didn't want to make it just a remix album. I wanted to convey how much Miles influenced people and became a source of new art. We are still living in Miles's spirit."
This work features a diverse group of artists, including Bilal, Illa J, Erykah Badu, Phonte, Hiatus Kaiyote, Laura Mvula, King, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Stevie Wonder, and guitarist John Scofield, who actually played in Miles's band.
Miles's original sound sources are sampled in each song with Glasper's free ideas, resulting in an album full of fresh surprises.
The artwork is newly written by Francine Turk, a leading figure in the American contemporary art world, and is inspired by Glasper's idea of freely collaging Miles's music.
The rhythms are all sampled from the original sound sources to create loops, approaching the "hip-hop jazz" vision that Miles must have envisioned.
Glasper, as a pianist and producer, leads his own trio and , transcending the boundaries of R&B, jazz, and hip-hop.
Miles, with his open and innovative spirit that is not afraid of change. If Miles were alive, the two innovators with a common ambition would surely have performed together.
This is truly a collaboration that transcends time and space.
