ABSTRACT PAINTINGS by Gerhard Richter
A collection of works by the German painter Gerhard Richter. Published in conjunction with an exhibition held at the Marian Goodman Gallery in Paris in 2008.
A collection of works by the German painter Gerhard Richter. This book features selected works from the artist's "Strip Painting" series and is a luxurious edition with a large format. Published in conjunction with an exhibition held at the Marian Goodman Gallery in New York in 2012. Includes two essays by the German art historian Benjamin H.D. Buchloch: "Gerhard Richter: Glass Insurrection" and "The Chance Ornament: Painting Progress Painting Loss." The former discusses the "Standing Glass Panels" (2002-2011) series, while the latter discusses "Strip Painting," both shedding new light on the artist's interest in various materials such as glass, metal panels, and digital printing. These materials also explore the role of chance in the creation of images in "Strip Painting," which is itself a creative process. Regarding this body of work, the artist questions the position of painting as a relevant medium in the digital age. Reflecting works by other artists who boldly used materials, such as Marcel Duchamp's "Large Glass" (1915-1923), and the artist's own past works, such as those made like color charts, this series of works demonstrates that he is an artist who has already made a significant contribution to the field of visual arts.
