The Polish armored train's history began post-1918 independence, proving vital in Bolshevik wars and border conflicts. Initially improvised, only advanced models remained post-1921. In 1939, two battalions, each with five trains, served in the Polish Army. Armored train Nr. 53 'Smialy' ('Bold'), paired with Nr. 52 'Pilsudczyk', fought in independence wars and 1939. On invasion day, it aided the Volynian Cavalry Brigade against the 4th Panzer Division at Mokra. Retreating towards Warsaw, they engaged 1st Panzer Division tanks. Later, they defended Brzesc fortress, holding off 10th Panzer Division for three days before being captured by the Red Army in Lvov.
