The B&K Precision 1739 single-output DC linear power supply provides a constant source of DC voltage for powering and testing electronic devices in service, engineering, production, educational, and home applications requiring low current, such as 4-20mA (milliamp) loop testing and calibration. The power supply unit (PSU) has one output that provides voltage of up to 30VDC and current of up to 1 amp, and the voltage and current output can be adjusted using fine and coarse controls on the unit's front panel. Two 4-digit LED screens show current and voltage output. The PSU can be controlled directly with the front control panel or remotely through the unit's RS-232 interface (cable included). When turned on, the PSU recalls the most-recent current and voltage settings used. A 1mA adjustable current limit with 0.1mA resolution helps protect against current overload. Built-in protection against overload, short-circuit, and reverse polarity helps prevent damage to equipment and reduce risk of shock. The unit can be set to accept an input line voltage of 120V, 220V, 230V, or 240VAC.SpecificationsNumber of outputs1Maximum voltage and current outputVoltage: 30VDC; Current: 1 ampLoad regulation, + or – (% of output + offset)Voltage: 0.04% + 1mV (millivolt); Current: 0.4% +0.1mA (milliamp)Line regulation, + or – (% of output + offset)Voltage: 0.1% + 3mV; Current: 0.4% +0.3mARipple and noise (20 Hz to 20 MHz)Less than or equal to 1mV, RMS (root mean square)Ripple currentLess than or equal to 0.4mA RMSTransient response timeLess than or equal to 75 μs (microseconds)Metering resolution and accuracyVoltage: 10mV at 0.5% + 2 digits; Current: 0.1mA at 0.5% + 2 digitsPower requirements110V or 220VAC at 50 or 60 Hz, + or – 10%Operating temperature and humidity32 to 104 degree Fahrenheit, 0 to 40 degree Celsius, less than 75% relative humidityWeight4kg/9lb.Dimensions158 x 140 x 318mm/6.2 x 5.5 x 12.5 inches (H x W x D)H is the vertical distance from lowest to highest point, W is the horizontal distance from left to right, and D is the horizontal distance from front to back.Power supply units (also known as PSUs, AC power supplies, DC power supplies, and battery eliminators) provide AC or DC voltage to power or test devices such as tools, appliances, and electronic components. The PSU draws energy from a line source such as a wall socket and converts it to a constant, specified amount of voltage or current that is then outputted to a connected device. In general, a power supply unit will be classified as either a linear PSU (also known as a linear regulation or line-frequency PSU) or a switched PSU (also known as a switching-mode power supply, SMPS, or switcher). Typically, a linear PSU has a simpler design and provides a faster transient response time and less electrical interference and noise than a switched PSU. A switched PSU is often smaller, lighter, and more efficient than a linear PSU and generates less heat. The transient response time of a PSU indicates how quickly the PSU can resume the desired constant output after a sudden change in input. Ripple voltage or current indicates how much unfiltered noise and AC voltage or current is present at the output of a filtered power supply operated at full load. The temperature coefficient is the percent average change in output voltage per degree centigrade of change in ambient temperature. Fuses, current limiters, and other forms of overload protection can be built into the PSU to help protect against voltage spikes or short-circuiting.B&K Precision manufactures test and measurement instruments for research and development, production-line testing, and electronic field service applications.
