Ice dams are frozen ridges of melting snow that prevent water from flowing off the roof. Ice dams can form on roofs, eaves, dormers, roof valleys, gutters, skylights, and downspouts, and can cause shingle damage, roof water leaks, insulation damage, moisture leaks in walls and ceilings, and gutter or downspout problems. ADKS De-Icing Cable installs over unheated portions of the roof above the overhang or in gutters or downspouts to create an ice-free path for melted water to drain. The ADKS cable plugs into a standard GFCI-protected, three-wire, grounded 120VAC receptacle. It prevents dangerous icicles from accumulating over driveways and doors. Keeps gutters and downspouts open and clear so water can flow. A temperature and humidity-sensing control, such as the EasyHeat RS-2, is recommended. It measures temperature and humidity to turn the system on or off in response to changing weather conditions.
