The Sphpanzer 2 LUCHS, produced by Thyssen-Henschel, served in the Federal German Army's tank reconnaissance units from 1975. This all-wheel-drive vehicle boasts robust armor, NBC protection, and a unique feature: a station for a second, rear-facing driver. Upgraded with an improved ammunition feed system, it became the LUCHS A1. Until the LUCHS A2 upgrade in 1985, which included thermal night vision equipment, it was fully amphibious, navigating water obstacles independently with rear-mounted propellers and a forward trim vane. Armed with an Rh 202 Mk 20 mm machine cannon and a 7.62 mm AA MG, its crew comprises a front-facing driver, gunner, rear-facing driver/radio operator, and commander.
